Richmond Nature Park: Richmond, BC

Last weekend, our friends invited us to see owls at the Richmond Nature Park, which is a gem of a little tiny park in the middle of Richmond. The Richmond Nature Park has a bog (which they are trying to revitalize), a lake, walking trials, lookouts for bird watching, and a nature house (that runs educational programs for families).

The day that we went, they were hosting a live owl show with the Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society. The Society recuses injured birds of prey, rehabilitates them, and releases them back into the wild. The Society offers a permanent home to birds that can't re-enter into the wild due to their injury.

We say a little saw-whet owl and a barred owl. They both suffered head trauma and don't know that they are owls anymore. They can't remember how to fly or fend for themselves. The owl show is to raise awareness and funds for the Society. More about the society here.

Something amazing about the owls are their eyes. Look at how trusting and human their eyes are. Both owls kept looking directly at their handler. I almost felt like they were saying, "Well I have no clue what's happening here, but I trust that you will take care of me, right?"
